If the roads are too narrow, or there aren’t any roads close enough to your lot...we can sometimes use the water (if close by) to move your cottage/house up the lake to a spot where we can get adequate road access. |
In picture #1, we are just loading the cottage onto a barge...in picture #2 we are cruising down the lake on route to the new destination. In pictures #3 & #4 the house is being unloaded and raised up for a basement. |

...What if your cottage is on an island or the roads are too narrow?? |

The reason we show you these pictures is to explain how we support your building in order to provide maximum stability and safety to both your building and our employees. |
In almost all cases we use 8 foot by 4 foot cribs to support the building. As well, it is always important to make sure that you use the correct type of beams to support the building…..These beams are 14 inches wide. |
On our way home from a job site that we were working on up near Orillia, ON we came across this house!! If you look at picture # 1, you can see that the mover used 4 foot by 4 foot cribs, and if you look closely on the right side of pic #1, you can see that they have used very narrow main beams(they appear to be about 6” wide beams-if you remember the pictures above, we were using 14 inch wide beams for extra stability). Both of these mistakes result in major instability and can sometimes lead to this unfortunate result. Tedford House Movers has always put the safety of it’s employees and customers property ahead of all else! We’ve invested heavily in proper equipment so that our customers can feel confident knowing that when they hire Tedford House Movers to do their job, that they will get more than 35 years of experience—and we’ve NEVER had a structure fall over on us! |
...This is what can happen if the mover isn’t safe!!! |

Sometimes you need to get creative in order to get the job done right! In this series of pictures, we show a house that we moved from one lot on the outskirts of Peterborough, to a lot in the East End of Peterborough. In this case, because of the way in which the foundation was dug out in preparation for the new foundation, we moved the roof in first and jacked it up into place. At one point, the owner decided that he wanted the house to face a different direction then first thought, so we used one of our specially made rollers to pivot the roof to the new direction (picture #3). Once we had the roof sitting in the right spot, we backed the house in underneath, and then set the roof down onto the main structure. |
