Peterborough Move/Roof Removal Project |
This brick house was built back in the 1940’s. It needed to be moved or demolished in order to accommodate the building of a new “Bell World”. Because the height of the building would have caused problems with hydro, telephone and cable wires, we cut the roof and moved the building in two separate pieces. Once we got both pieces to it’s new location, we put the two back together like new. As well, due to the fact that the brick was left on the building adding several tonnes of weight to the structure, additional steel was required to support the extra weight. |

The roof has been cut and is now ready for removal. A crane has been brought in to lift the roof off. |
The crane has picked the roof off of the main building and is swinging it off to the side to be loaded onto a trailer. |
The removal of the roof is a common practice with taller buildings in order to avoid running into hydro/telephone cables. |
The roof is now resting on the trailer waiting to be taken to it’s new home. |
Here’s the house just starting down the street. The roof follows on a second trailer (see next pic) |

Both pieces of the house are now on the road and heading to their new destination. Once both pieces arrive, they will be placed back together. |
The house is now over the new foundation and the roof is being lowered back into place by the crane. It will then be re-secured to the house. |

The house has just been lifted off of it’s original foundation. Because of the weight, 12 heavy 8 inch steel cross beams have been used to support the brick. |
